Using Office 365? Here's how to access your email, reset your password, and install Office software:

Webmail

To access your email via web browser:

  1. Go to outlook.office.com and enter your email address
  2. If prompted, choose Work or School Account and enter your password
    1. If you have Single Sign On, you may be directed to a splash page to sign in
    2. If your password doesn't work, see Reset password
  3. Switch to your Calendar or Contacts by clicking the grid in the upper left corner and choosing a tile.

Reset password

To reset your Office 365 password:

  1. Follow the instructions above to log into webmail
  2. Click Office 365 in the upper left next to the grid icon
  3. Click the gear icon in the upper right next to the question mark
  4. Click Password
  5. Follow the prompts to change your password
    1. If you receive an error message that you can't change your password, you will need to change your password through your Single Sign On page or through another method
    2. Contact the Help Desk if you get stuck

Email setup

To set up your email on your device, choose your device/app:

  1. Outlook for Windows
  2. Outlook for Mac
  3. Outlook for mobile
  4. iOS Mail
  5. Android Mail

Outlook for Windows

To add your account in Outlook for Windows:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. If this is your first time using Outlook, follow the prompts to add your account
  3. If Outlook is already set up with another account, click File menu > Add Account
  4. If prompted, type your full name, email address, password, and re-type your password, then click Next
    1. Outlook may auto-fill your email address; if so, confirm it's correct and click Next
  5. In the Windows Security popup, enter your full email address for Username, enter your email password and check the box for Remember my credentials
    1. Note that this may be the same as your computer password or your Single Sign On password (OneLogin, Okta, etc.)
  6. If you receive an error message or are prompted to enter the Server address, test your password
    1. Log into webmail with your email address and password
    2. If your password fails, see Reset password
    3. If your password works, repeat steps above
  7. If prompted to choose your update preferences, choose Install updates only and click Accept
  8. Depending on how big your mailbox is, Outlook will need some time to download all of your mail and calendar data
    1. If you have a particularly large inbox, Outlook may not show new email until it downloads all the mail in your inbox, in which case you may want to use webmail while it finishes downloading
    2. It's a good idea to keep the messages in your inbox to a minimum by archiving them to subfolders; if you need help with this, please contact our Help Desk

Outlook for Mac

Need help installing Outlook? Visit Office 365 app install.

To add your account in Outlook for Windows:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click Outlook menu > Preferences > Accounts
  3. Click the + in the lower left > Exchange
  4. Enter your email address under E-mail address and User name
    1. Enter your password*
      1. Note that this may be the same as your computer password or your Single Sign On password (OneLogin, Okta, etc.)
      2. If you have Single Sign On, you may be directed to a splash page to sign in
  5. Click Add Account
  6. If you receive an error message or are prompted to enter the Server address, test your password
    1. Log into webmail with your email address and password
    2. If your password fails, see Reset password
    3. If your password works, repeat steps above
  7. A popup appears saying Outlook was redirected...to get new settings for your account
  8. Check the box for Always use my response for this server and click Allow
  9. Depending on how big your mailbox is, Outlook will need some time to download all of your mail and calendar data
    1. If you have a particularly large inbox, Outlook may not show new email until it downloads all the mail in your inbox, in which case you may want to use webmail while it finishes downloading

Outlook for Mobile

Whether you're on iOS or Android, you'll probably want to use the free Outlook app rather than the built-in mail apps, but see the following sections for setting up the built-in apps.

  1. Download the Outlook app from the App Store or Play Store
  2. Open the app and tap Get Started
  3. Choose your notification preferences
  4. Enter your email address and tap Add Account
  5. Enter your password, or sign in through your Single Sign In splash page (OneLogin, Okta, etc.)
  6. If you receive an error message or are prompted to enter the Server address, test your password
    1. Log into webmail with your email address and password
    2. If your password fails, see Reset password
    3. If your password works, repeat steps above
  7. Choose to add another account or tap Maybe Later
  8. Follow the tutorial or tap Skip

iOS Mail

  1. Open the Settings app and scroll down to tap Mail
  2. Tap Accounts > Add Account > Exchange
  3. Enter your email address and password and enter a display name for the account under Description
  4. If you receive an error message or are prompted to enter the Server address, test your password
    1. Log into webmail with your email address and password
    2. If your password fails, see Reset password
    3. If your password works, repeat steps above
  5. Choose which data (Mail, Contacts, Calendar, etc.) you want to sync to your device and tap Save

Android Mail

  1. Open the Settings app and scroll down to tap Accounts
  2. Tap Add AccountMicrosoft Exchange ActiveSync
  3. Fill in the fields:
    1. Enter your email address and password
    2. If you see a Domain\Username field, enter your full email address
    3. If Domain and Username are separate fields, enter your full email address in Username, and leave Domain blank
    4. If you see a Server field, enter outlook.office365.com
  4. Tap Next > OK
  5. If you receive an error message or are prompted to enter the Server address, test your password
    1. Log into webmail with your email address and password
    2. If your password fails, see Reset password
    3. If your password works, repeat steps above
  6. Select your Account options and tap Next
  7. Tap Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to change the display name the account and tap Next

Install Office apps

To install Office apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.):

  1. Log into webmail
  2. Click Office 365 in the upper left next to the grid icon
  3. Click Install Office 2016 in the upper right corner
    1. If you don't see this, then your Office 365 license does not include Office software; contact the Help Desk for assistance
  4. Download and open the installer, then follow prompts to install Office
